Rs 48 billion. That is how much foreign direct investment flowed into Mauritius last year, a record, according to preliminary figures from the Bank of Mauritius. Gross inflows jumped almost 46 percent from a year earlier, excluding global business flows.
Money is arriving faster than the island can turn into new buildings and jobs on the ground. The headline figure tells you confidence in Mauritius is running high; what it does not yet tell you is where all that money finally settles, or how much of it stays for the long haul.
